STOCK ANALYZER
by
Shibley Software
Whether you are a would-be tycoon
trying to build a financial empire or
just an average investor trying to
build a nest-egg, the trick to
playing the stock market is seeing
patterns.
How you would go about studying
stock trends is determined by your
finances of course. If you were
successful enough, you would probably
have a stable of financial analysts.
If you were not-so-rich, you would
probably have to make do with reading
the daily business newspapers and
following your gut instincts.
But even if you fall into the
second catagory of investors, you
CAN get an edge-- with STOCK
ANALYZER. This program creates and
maintains a database system that can
keep track of over one hundred stocks
in four different markets over the
course of a year. Best of all, you
can print out charts of a stock's
performance so you can see trends at
a glance.
While STOCK ANALYZER probably will
not turn you into an instant
millionaire, it can be a great asset.
And after all, when you play the
stock market, you are playing with the
big boys. You need all the help you
can get.
USING STOCK ANALYZER
The first screen that you will see
is the MARKET CHOICE MENU which
displays the four markets you can
work with:
1. National Association of Securities
Dealers
2. American Stock Exchange
3. New York Stock Exchange
4. Over the Counter Quotations
Pressing the corresponding number
chooses that market. The markets in
STOCK ANALYZER are strictly
segregated-- you must complete the
update procedure for one market
before returning to the MARKET MENU
to begin entries for another market.
STOCK ANALYZER has sample data files
in all four markets. You can
practice manipulating these files as
you run through the program for the
first time.
Once you have chosen a market, you
are sent to the MAIN MENU. Here you
have the option to
1. Add (new)
2. Add (existing)
3. Display
4. Purge
5. Print Menu
6. Quit
Again, pressing the corresponding
number selects that option.
ADD (NEW) OPTION
This option allows you to enter the
stock name, symbol, the 52-week
high and low values, and the closing
quote.
When you choose this option, you
will first be asked to enter the date
of that entry. Notice that each
number must be two digits and that
you must press RETURN to enter the
date.
After you have entered the date,
you will go to the screen where you
enter stock information. Most of
the screens in STOCK ANALYZER are
variations of this screen and use the
same operating principles.
At the top of the screen, you will
see the date of the last update and a
prompt telling you to type in the
stock name and RETURN. The cursor is
automatically in the correct place
for entry of this name.
When you type in the name, remember
that it can be up to 19 characters
long, but cannot begin with a blank
or have any punctuation within it.
Once you have entered the stock
name, you will be prompted to enter a
symbol for that stock. You can use
the actual market symbol or an
abbreviation you find easy to
remember that is from one to four
characters long.
Once you have entered the stock
symbol, the cursor moves below the
HIGH value label. Type in your value
and RETURN. Notice at the bottom of
the screen the various control
characters that let you to type in
fractions easily. For example,
pressing CONTROL and "7" will type in
a "7/8" on the screen.
Next enter the LOW, and LAST
values. When these have been
entered, you are prompted to (R)eturn
to the MAIN MENU or work on the
(N)ext stock.
ADD (EXISTING) OPTION
This option allows you to update
the stocks you are following. This
screen is just like the one used in
the ADD (NEW) option. Here you are
prompted to enter the name of the
stock you wish to update. Notice
that you can abbreviate the name that
you enter. Or, if you wish to use
the symbol name, press RETURN until
the cursor rests at the stock symbol
label and then enter the symbol.
Once the data on that stock has
been found, you will be prompted to
enter the last value using the same
procedure described in the ADD (NEW)
option.
DISPLAY OPTION
The DISPLAY option uses the same
sort of screen as before. If you
enter the stock name or symbol, the
program will display the stock's full
name, symbol, and the high/low/last
values for the last 30 entries.
After the record is displayed, you
have the option of seeing the data
for another stock or returning to the
MAIN MENU.
PURGE OPTION
The PURGE option will eliminate a
specific stock record in order to
make room for new stocks. To purge a
stock, enter its name or symbol as
you have before. Once you have
entered that stock, you will be asked
if the stock shown is the one you
want erased. Answer (Y)es or (N)o.
